Chief Executive
UNICSKIN

Mónica Sada, Founder and CEO of UNICSKIN, has built her leadership journey around a problem she understands personally. Before becoming an entrepreneur, she spent 29 years living with different skin conditions, including acne, atopic dermatitis, sun sensitivity, psoriasis, and melanoma. These experiences shaped the way she looked at skincare. For her, the price of a product or the appearance of its packaging could never prove its value. What mattered was the formula, the ingredients, their concentration, and how they worked together.

CIO Global is pleased to spotlight Mónica Sada in this edition, celebrating a notable contribution to leadership, innovation, and industry progress.

Her personal experience became the foundation for UNICSKIN. Before starting the company, Sada spent several years in investment banking and lived in New York. That experience gave her discipline, analytical thinking, and a strong understanding of how a business should be built and measured. She brought the same approach to skincare. At UNICSKIN, products are expected to prove their value through real results.

Real growth begins with real impact.

The idea for the company became clear when Sada returned to Spain. She wanted to turn years of personal frustration into a solution that could help people like her. To build the brand, she met with more than 35 pharmaceutical laboratories, chemists, pharmacists, and aesthetic doctors. Her goal was to create the kind of brand she had wished to find during her own journey with skin problems. Over time, UNICSKIN grew around the belief that highly effective pharmaceutical dermocosmetics and medical-aesthetic technology should not remain limited to the doctor’s office. They could also become part of people’s everyday routines at home.

Today, Sada’s vision for UNICSKIN remains focused on bringing the medical-aesthetic treatment room into the home without reducing its scientific standards. The company is working on three main areas: hyper-personalization, international growth, and innovation. Sada believes that every person’s skin is different, so the company continues to improve its diagnostic tools and technology to adapt to individual needs. At the same time, UNICSKIN has expanded internationally and now exports to more than 40 countries. The company has also established a strong position in tech-beauty in the Middle East and is seeing strong growth in several markets, including the United States.

Innovation is another important part of this journey. UNICSKIN continues to develop patented technology manufactured in Spain while keeping its central purpose clear: helping users achieve real and measurable improvements in their skin. For Sada, growth only has meaning when it remains connected to customer results.

Her leadership style is closely connected to science and evidence. She believes that leadership should stay close to science and far from ego. At UNICSKIN, she works with a team made up entirely of women, alongside chemists, pharmacists, aesthetic doctors, and a scientific advisory board. Her role as CEO is to make sure that business decisions remain aligned with scientific evidence. This creates a culture where the team can work with a shared standard. If a product or technology does not deliver results, it does not belong in the company.

Sada also motivates her team by keeping them connected to the purpose behind their work. She understands that skin conditions can affect a person’s confidence and self-esteem because she has experienced this herself. Customer stories remind the team that their work has an impact beyond business numbers. At the same time, she gives specialized professionals the freedom to use their own judgment. She believes that people with deep expertise should be trusted to contribute their knowledge.

The beauty industry presents several challenges, especially when it comes to credibility. The market is filled with claims that are not always supported by evidence. UNICSKIN responds by maintaining strict standards for ingredient concentrations, clinical validation, and device safety. The company also aims to be transparent about what an at-home treatment can and cannot replace when it comes to medical consultation.

Science should lead innovation, not trends.

Another challenge is that different markets have different levels of awareness and maturity. While consumers in Spain may still have a more traditional approach to skincare, markets such as the Middle East have embraced technology-driven beauty more strongly. Sada believes the answer is to adapt the way the company educates consumers without changing the products themselves. The formulas and technology remain consistent, while the communication changes according to the needs of each market.

Innovation at UNICSKIN begins with science rather than trends. The company works with more than 35 European laboratories and has visited more than 15 technology factories in Asia to study technologies such as LED, EMS, and near-infrared. The aim is to understand which technologies work and how they can be safely adapted for home use. Products also go through the company’s scientific advisory board before reaching the market.

Sada’s approach to innovation is based on optimization rather than simplification. She believes that bringing professional treatments into the home should not mean reducing the strength of active ingredients or technology. Instead, professional protocols can be redesigned to make them easier and more practical for people to use at home while maintaining their effectiveness.

Her achievements reflect the growth of both her vision and UNICSKIN. She was recently recognized by CaixaBank with its Premio Empresaria award for the Madrid region through its Wengage program. She is especially proud of this recognition because it acknowledges her journey as a woman leading a science-driven company. UNICSKIN has also multiplied its revenue by 40 over the past five years, now exports to more than 40 countries, and has received more than 100 international awards.

For Sada, however, numbers are not the only measure of success. She believes a strong company culture depends on protecting a few principles as the business grows. Scientific evidence must come before opinion, promises must match product performance, and specialized employees must receive genuine autonomy. She also believes that customer impact should remain visible. When a customer finally finds a solution to a skin problem they have struggled with for years, that becomes a powerful measure of success.

Her advice to future entrepreneurs is rooted in experience. She encourages them to solve a problem they truly understand, preferably one they have experienced themselves. She also believes entrepreneurs should surround themselves with experts who know more about the subject than they do. For Sada, the entrepreneur’s role is not to know everything, but to bring together the right expertise and turn it into a strong and useful business.

Results should always come before appearance.

She also believes entrepreneurs should never confuse visibility with substance. In an industry where marketing can easily become louder than evidence, she sees real differentiation in products that can prove their value. Thinking internationally from the beginning is another lesson she considers important, especially for businesses with products that can serve customers across borders.

Looking ahead, Sada plans to continue bringing medical-aesthetic technology into people’s homes. UNICSKIN will keep investing in personalized skin diagnostics, patented devices made in Spain, and international markets while continuing to strengthen its presence in Spain and explore new opportunities. Her personal commitment remains closely connected to the experience that started it all. She wants people who have lived with skin conditions to find real solutions through UNICSKIN. For Sada, if the company continues to measure success through tangible improvements in customers’ skin and self-esteem, it will remain on the right path.
