Sara Ting has dedicated her life to inspiring equality, inclusion, and unity across the world. She is the President of World Unity Inc., a TEDx speaker, diversity and inclusion trainer, and author. Her journey began at a very young age. When she was just nine years old, she asked herself a deep question: why am I here, and what is my purpose? Years later, in 1978, she wrote the Sun Poem in her personal journal. This simple yet powerful piece of writing would go on to shape her entire life and mission. The poem begins with the words:
“Are you greater than the sun that shines on everyone: Black, Brown, Yellow, Red and White – the sun does not discriminate.”
This message became the foundation of her lifelong work to promote equality and overcome unconscious biases.
In 1987, a young Asian American woman shared how the Sun Poem helped her forgive a painful experience. That story inspired Sara to create World Unity Inc. in 1993, with the vision of building a permanent landmark that would showcase the Sun Poem to the world. Over time, her vision grew into a global movement to plant the poem and the song it inspired in schools, communities, and international events.
Sara’s work stands out because of its clarity and universality. The Sun Poem is timeless, simple, and transformative. It speaks directly to the truth of equality and has the power to spark change from within. In her TEDx Talk, “Uncover and Overcome All Unconscious Biases,” Sara shares how reflecting on the poem for just 15 seconds can encourage people to see the value in every human being. She believes it is a tool that can be used daily in workplaces and communities to create more inclusive environments.
Like many visionaries, Sara has faced challenges. Raising funds for her projects has always been a major hurdle, but she overcame it with persistence, creativity, and by building strong relationships with supporters. She also worked tirelessly for years to find a home for the World Unity Landmark. After 28 years of perseverance, her dream finally came closer to reality when the project was accepted as part of the Dorchester Bay City Development. Securing this site remains one of her proudest achievements.

Looking ahead, Sara sees the fight against unconscious bias as a challenge that affects all industries and communities. She believes society must stop treating it as a competitive issue and instead work together to address it. Quoting Einstein, she often says, “You cannot solve a problem with the same consciousness that created it. You must stand on a higher ground.” For Sara, this higher ground means helping people recognize that their first and most important identity is being human. From that place, they can better appreciate the rich diversity of humanity.
Innovation and technology have played a key role in Sara’s success. From local programs like “Singing Equality Across America” to global platforms like TEDx, she has found creative ways to spread the Sun Poem. Through websites, social media, and even a 50-second animation, she has used digital tools to make her vision accessible to people everywhere.
Sara leads with humility, gratitude, and faith in something greater than herself. Her approach to work is purpose-driven, rooted in the belief that she is here to share the Sun Poem with the world. She sees it as a solution to help humanity overcome unconscious biases and create a better future for children.
To young professionals and entrepreneurs, Sara shares simple but powerful advice: know yourself. She encourages them to confront their biases, nurture a growth mindset, and practice compassion and gratitude. She believes in having a clear vision, expressing it openly, and trusting in something greater than oneself and knowing it takes a dedicated team to accomplish a goal. Her future goals are bold yet inspiring. Sara hopes to secure major sponsors for the World Unity Landmark and to see the Sun Poem and the song it inspired performed at global events like the World Cup and the Olympics. For her, this would symbolize not only recognition of her work but also a global embrace of unity and equality. Through her vision, persistence, and unwavering belief in the power of words, Sara Ting continues to spread light in the world, reminding everyone that the sun shines equally on all.
